First Time Mom? You’ll Love These Items for Your Registry

As a first-time mom, I added so many things to my baby registry that as hard as it is to admit — I still haven’t used or I will never use. I want to share with you a few must-have items I am grateful to have because they come in handy every day. Some of these might sound like a no brainer to you, but others you may not have on your radar. If you’re a new mom, I hope this list helps you; share with me in the comments what’s one item you can’t live without!

Petunia Picklebottom Boxy Packpack Diaper Bag

Petunia Picklebottom Diaper Bag | There are so many things you need to pack when heading out of the house with a baby, and this bag helps keep everything organized. I chose the birch/black colorway in the boxy style because it goes with my minimal aesthetic. It also fits everything! Designed with the modern mom in mind, this diaper bag has a clever built-in changing station, plenty of pockets, magnetic closure, a grab handle, stroller straps, and multiple carrying options (backpack and cross-body / shoulder). It also comes with a portable wet wipes case which you can use with other bags. When I first shared about it on Instagram I received the following messages below from other mamas who love it too!

Hatch Changing Pad | If you’re planning to breastfeed, this changing pad is a great item to purchase because it helps you track your baby’s weight. That’s because it can measure how much your baby is drinking at every feeding (in ounces or grams). I really only recommend this if you’re planning to breastfeed.

Hatch Sound Machine | A treat for mom and baby! The Hatch Sound Machine calms my baby, and also helps me get some much needed zen time. I love the preset sounds it has and I can see myself using this for a long time. It also has a built-in monitor which is a great add on. The only downside to this is the app you need to operate it can be glitchy at times which can be frustrating when you are relying on the built-in audio monitor.

FridaBaby Nasal Aspirator | When James was only four weeks old he woke up stuffy. I was so concerned he was catching a cold but it turns out he had a giant booger stuck in his left nostril. This thing got it out in no time.

Doona | This is probably the most convenient carseat you’ve ever seen. It’s a carseat + stroller in one which makes it great for fussy newborns. When James falls asleep in the car I don’t have to worry about waking him because as soon as you take out the carseat it easily transforms into a stroller. It’s also a great conversation starter and is super compact.

Cloud Island Onesies for Sleep | This is by far my favorite long-sleeve footed pajama brand because it’s so easy to put on and has foldover mittens. James also looks so cute in these! Cloud Island is super affordable so it won’t break the bank and is sold at Target.

Itzy Ritzy Pacifiers | I wish someone had told me not to stock up on pacifiers until the baby was here because although newborns are small, they have preferences. My baby boy loves the ones by Itzy Ritzy. These are also some of the most affordable modern pacifiers I have found and come in a pack of two in so many pretty colors.

Lots of moisturizer (fragrance free!) | When I noticed James’ skin was starting to get very dry, the doctor recommended this and it’s helped so much. I switched his moisturizer from a scented version to this Cerave fragrance-free body lotion and his skin has improved greatly. I didn’t know just how sensitive a baby’s skin really is until I had James. In his first month, he developed a little bit of baby acne but this helped clear it up. 10/10 recommend.

Moby and Baby Bjorn Baby Carriers | Another thing I learned when I had a baby is that they want to be on you… a lot… like all the time. 😅 A wearable baby carrier is an investment you’ll want to make to allow you to get things done around the house during those first few months.

Baby Delight Travel Bassinet | This is a great buy if you visit the grandparents frequently. You can set it up to rock or stay still and it comes with a built-in mosquito net if you’re ever outdoors. I like to also use this in the living room when we’re watching tv. It’s super lightweight and easy to pack. Definitely a great buy!

Portable fan | An absolute must-have for summer. This portable fan is rechargeable and battery operated. It also supports USB charging which is super convenient if you’re in the car.
